RABID DOG:

This could go bad very quickly for her in several different ways. He often doesn’t think before attacking. It’s an INSTANT RESPONSE to things that set him off. So far, she’s done nothing but irritate him - which is fine. He’ll take that from her because he’s not looking forward to another punishment for killing a VALUABLE ASSET

He’s quick to follow her - maybe a little too quick. He wanted to get the hell away from those other agents before they changed their mind and decided to drag him off. With her, he was SAFER, though he’s not entirely too sure HOW SAFE. Steve was suspicious of EVERYONE and that included her.

Once again his entire body went RIGID as he came to a FULL STOP upon hearing her speak about how his title was too sexual, too much like ‘daddy’. It made him pause, made eyes flutter shut and memories to flash through his mind like a slideshow.

Which only made him GROWL at her.  If she had any ill intentions, he would hurt her. “I killed my last handler. You try anything and I’ll kill you too.” He’s very aware how vague he is about what ‘try anything’ meant and it’s on purpose.

Taking a deep breath, he moved forward again, brushing past her as if he hadn’t just been TRIGGERED by her words. “Yeah, well, you’ve got me to deal with so quit complainin’ and get over it.”

Play it off. Act like a good soldier. Don’t show weakness.

When she was SIX, far before the world happened to her and her only problem was dodging her father’s fist and belt, she had been bitten by a wild dog. Thankfully it had no rabies, but she had learned a lesson. Wild dogs that growl, snap their canines if you reach for them, REGARDLESS of your intentions. The memory had stuck in her brain, especially with Swordsman’s teaching that intentions NEVER mattered

The growl that the good CAPTAIN gave her snapped her to attention. All teasing, joking words that come from feeling playful and undamaged comes to a full stop. Blue eyes dart from his face to nothing. Her hands itch for a gun, a bow, a knife, anything that could defend her    that she can use to defend herself  from the man the monster the rabid dog the GOOD CAPTAIN in front of her, bypassing her and pushing her.

she doesn’t trust him, she doesn’t trust any man not really ( not that women haven’t been apart of her nightmarish life - as vaguely as it is, she can remember, her mother did nothing to stop the abuse) but MEN have been a major part. ❜  don’t THREATEN me  ❜ her voice cold and low, but she’s keeping her distance; she’s been at the hands of a man who feels stronger than her and she’s been at the hands of a man who feels weaker than her and she’s found that they’re both horrible. given that she has no idea which he is, she’s got no desire to push her luck.

❜  Assets like you give the rest of us mindless drones a bad name; don’t kill the handlers, it’s another rule.  ❜  rules mean nothing to people like him, she thinks, her steps falling in turn with his, just a few steps away from him. if he’s as good as everyone said he was, then he’s just discovered a weakness that she never let anyone else see, but if he’s better than that, then he’s also discovered a personal sore spot that turns her insides out and makes her meaner than she likes being.  ❜  HONESTLY DARLIN’, I’m not the big bad wolf, i’m a damaged asset: I don’t TRY anything.   ❜
